Rediscovering self-care with AMI London

The constant rush of daily life often leads us to neglect our own needs and forget the importance of simply being present. A few years back, I came to realise this truth when I began experiencing hair loss. Despite being fairly healthy for as long as I could remember, I suddenly found myself losing more and more hair despite my efforts to nurture it.

It took removing myself from certain situations, taking a break from what was causing me to burn out, and some self-reflection for me to realise that I wasn't listening to my body. I realised after the birth of my daughter that I’d stopped doing all the little things I used to love, such as reading, self-care days, going out for a run, and just resting without feeling like I was 'lazy', because I’d replaced them with a busy life.

Embarking on a new regimen, I committed to setting aside one day each month solely for self-care rituals while transitioning to exclusively using natural body care products. Since integrating these practices into my routine, I've experienced a remarkable transformation. It's astonishing to realise how these small habits and moments throughout the day significantly contribute to my overall wellbeing, health, and ultimately, my happiness.

My self-care morning routine that works for me:

I start every morning with a green juice before I head into the shower. I find this really sets my mood for the day. My morning shower is a little piece of heaven. I love to pamper myself so I take any chance I get, even if it’s only a 15-minute shower. I also like to spend this time to focus my mind on three things I am grateful for. I then finish with a little indulgence using our best selling Whipped Shea Body Butter with Ylang Ylang and Bergamot. The nourishing blend of 100% pure, unrefined Shea Butter, natural oils, and vitamins A, C, D and E provides my skin with intense hydration, and smells divine with the hint of bergamot. Then I get my daughter ready for school whilst listening to a self help/motivational podcast.

My daily habits for my wellbeing:

However busy my day is, I have a rule that I must make the time to practice self-care during the day. These are small, quick little things I do to look after myself both inside and out:

  • Drink lots of water during the day to keep hydrated
  • Eat well, incorporating plenty of fruit and vegetables
  • Stay in touch with loved ones, even in the midst of a busy schedule
  • Indulge in little moments of pleasure, like a mug of herbal tea or a podcast
  • Surround myself with flowers for a feel-good boost

My evening routine for a good night’s sleep:

Finishing my day is just as important as how I start it, so I've developed a small routine at nighttime to help me wind down and relax ready for bed. I enjoy a warm shower, followed by the Whipped Shea and Cocoa Body butter to revitalise my skin.

My self-care journey is still a work in progress, but I’m always looking for new little things I can do to help me be me. I’d love to know if you have your own self-care routine or any ideas for mine. Share your self-care moments and tag us @amilonondon on instagram.
