ABOUT US (FROM THE FOUNDER)

Since the inception of ÀMI, my vision has always been to cultivate a brand that reflects the values of non-toxic, simple, clean and ethical beauty with mainly black women in mind.

As someone who battled with the "pregnancy mask", I was determined to find something that worked for me and other women like me out there who didn't feel safe using steroids or products from the high street. My daughter at the age of 2 months also developed eczema and I had made up my mind to use only clean natural products after she was prescribed steroids by her GP as well. I started whipping my own shea butter with natural oils that not only helped my daughters eczema but also my acne.

In April 2020, after the pandemic began, I felt God call me to help somehow. Then it came to me.  I decided I wanted to help families in need, to provide for basic necessities. I had hardly any money to my name but I realised I had a product I could give in exchange for money without hurting my pocket. I decided that 50% of the revenue would go to Virtual Village via The Good Exchange - a platform that brings together a community of funders, fundraisers, donors and the public. I set up a fundraising page and brushed it aside for a couple more days. I then felt led to post it on my Instagram page randomly one Saturday afternoon and shortly after, I received hundreds of messages with people showing interest and sharing my products organically. From there, I knew I had a business opportunity on my hands.

I spent the next few weeks researching natural ingredients with antibacterial properties to help my skin. I discovered so many effective natural oils including oils that have the power to hydrate and help banish blemishes. After much more extensive research, I came up with 3 different oils suitable for oily, dry and combination skin. Within a matter of weeks, the scars had cleared up from the acne that I had battled with for over 9 months. I had completely replaced everything I had been using from the high street with the natural products that I had formulated. Months went by and my skin developed the lit-from-within glow. It was much healthier than it had ever been, my daughters eczema has also significantly reduced ... and that was where it all began!

If you are reading this, my hope is for you to experience the same ethical effective results as I did with simple, well-considered, natural ingredients.

With love,

Dami x
